Tunnels of Doom

This is a project I undertook over a span of about six months to try and catalog the games I’ve played. The initial notion was to then rate and write notes for each game but the scope narrowed when I realized the sheer volume of games I’ve played in what is essentially 30 years of gaming. For the record, the list currently includes 657 entries.

The conditions that allowed a game onto the list are:

1. I had to have played the full retail version of the game for at least one hour. This is why stuff like Avatar – The Last Airbender on Xbox 360 didn’t make the cut; I was curious if the achievement points could in fact be gotten in under five minutes. They were. I turned the game off right afterward. That hardly counts as “playing” it.
2. I had to have a specific memory of playing the game. This is the rule that kept a lot of sports titles off the list. I’ve played significantly more Madden and NHL games than are represented here, but I often can’t distinguish one year’s version from another in my mind. If I wasn’t sure about something, I didn’t put it in the list.
3. In cases where I played multiple versions of the same game, I tried to list the title once under the platform I played the most. The distinction between titles can be a bit open to interpretation but I tried to reflect reality for the most part.
